1. Tell me about yourself.
B1 I'm an accountant, and I work for a small import company in Guayaquil. I've worked there for three years. I prepare monthly reports and I help with taxes. Before that, I did an internship at a bank. Now I want to work for a bigger company where I can learn more.
B2+ I'm an accountant with five years of experience, currently at a mid-sized import company, where I'm responsible for monthly financial reporting and tax compliance. Over the last year I've also led the move to a new accounting system, which cut our month-end closing time significantly. I'm now looking for a role with a larger team where I can take on more analysis and planning, which is why this position caught my attention.
Frases útiles:
- I'm a… with … years of experience in…
- Currently, I'm responsible for…
- Before that, I worked as…
- I'm now looking for a role where…
2. What are your strengths?
B1 I'm very organized. For example, I plan my week every Monday, so I never miss a deadline. I'm also good with customers. I'm patient, and I listen carefully to their problems.
B2+ I'd say my main strength is organization. I manage several projects at the same time, and I use a simple planning system that helps me spot problems early. Another strength is communication with clients: I'm good at explaining technical issues in plain language, and in my current job I'm often the person the team asks to handle difficult calls.
Frases útiles:
- One of my main strengths is…
- For example,…
- I'm good at…
- In my current job, I'm often the person who…
3. What is your greatest weakness?
B1 Sometimes I say yes to too many tasks, and then I have too much work. Now I write a list every morning and I ask my manager about priorities. It's getting better.
B2+ I used to find it hard to delegate. I wanted to check every detail myself, which slowed the team down. Over the past year I've worked on it by agreeing on clear goals with each person and checking progress at set points instead of all the time. It's still something I pay attention to, but our projects run more smoothly now.
Frases útiles:
- Something I'm working on is…
- I used to…, but now I…
- To improve this, I've started…
- It's still something I pay attention to.
4. Why do you want this job?
B1 I like your company because you work with clients in many countries. I want to use my English and learn about international markets. I also think my experience in sales can help your team.
B2+ Two things attracted me to this role. First, your company is expanding into new markets in the region, and I'd like to be part of that growth. Second, the position combines sales and client support, which is exactly where my experience lies. I think I could contribute from the start while continuing to develop my skills.
Frases útiles:
- I'm interested in this role because…
- What attracted me to your company is…
- I'd like to be part of…
- I think I could contribute…
5. Why should we hire you?
B1 I have three years of experience in a similar job. I know how to use the software you use. And I learn fast. I think I'm a good fit for this position.
B2+ Because I can offer the three things this role needs. I have four years of experience in customer support, so I understand the job from day one. I'm comfortable with the tools you mention in the posting. And I've shown that I can improve processes: in my current team, I helped reduce response times by reorganizing how we handle requests.
Frases útiles:
- I have experience in…
- I'm comfortable with…
- I've shown that I can…
- I'd bring…
6. Where do you see yourself in five years?
B1 In five years, I want to have more responsibility. I'd like to lead a small team. I also want to use my English with international clients.
B2+ I'd like to have grown into a role with more responsibility, ideally leading a small team. I'm also keen to keep developing my skills in data analysis, which I know is important in this field. Above all, I'd like to be somewhere where I can keep learning, and this company seems like that kind of place.
Frases útiles:
- In five years, I'd like to…
- I'm keen to keep developing…
- Ideally,…
- Above all, I'd like to…
7. Tell me about a time you faced a challenge at work.
B1 Last year, our team had a big order, and two people were sick. I had to finish the work on time. I organized the tasks and I worked some extra hours. We finished on time, and the client was happy.
B2+ Last year, two days before an important delivery, two colleagues were out sick and we were behind schedule. My task was to make sure we still delivered on time. I reorganized the tasks by priority, asked another team to help with the simpler parts and kept the client informed. We delivered one day late on a small part, but the main order arrived on time, and the client renewed the contract.
Frases útiles:
- At the time, I was…
- My task was to…
- What I did was…
- As a result,…
8. Why are you leaving your current job?
B1 I like my job, but I want to grow. In my company, there aren't many opportunities to learn new things. I'm looking for a new challenge.
B2+ I've learned a lot in my current role, but I feel I've reached a point where there's limited room to grow. I'm looking for a position with new challenges, particularly one where I can work on larger projects and with international clients.
Frases útiles:
- I've learned a lot, but…
- I'm looking for a new challenge.
- There's limited room to grow.
- I'd like to work on…
9. What are your salary expectations?
B1 I'm looking for a salary between … and … a month. But I'm open to talking about it.
B2+ Based on my experience and the market for similar roles, I'm looking for something in the range of … to … per month. That said, I'm open to discussing it, and I'd also like to know more about the full package, such as benefits and training.
Frases útiles:
- I'm looking for something in the range of…
- Based on my experience…
- I'm open to discussing it.
- Could you tell me the range for this position?
10. Do you have any questions for us?
B1 Yes. What does a normal day look like in this job? And what are the next steps in the process?
B2+ Yes, a couple. What would success look like in this role after the first six months? And how would you describe the team I'd be working with? Finally, what are the next steps in the process?
Frases útiles:
- What does a typical day look like?
- What would success look like in this role?
- How would you describe the team?
- What are the next steps?
El método STAR, con un ejemplo completo
Muchas entrevistas incluyen preguntas de comportamiento, que empiezan con Tell me about a time when… o Give me an example of….
Pregunta: Tell me about a time you solved a problem for a customer.
| Parte | Qué cuentas | Ejemplo |
|---|---|---|
| Situation (situación) | El contexto: dónde, cuándo, qué pasaba | Last December, I was working in customer service for an online store, and a customer's order for a birthday party was lost two days before the event. |
| Task (tarea) | Qué te tocaba hacer o resolver | I needed to get her a solution before the party and keep her as a customer. |
| Action (acción) | Qué hiciste tú, paso a paso | I called the courier and confirmed the package was lost. Then I checked our stock, sent a new order by express delivery and called the customer to explain exactly when it would arrive. I also added a discount for her next purchase. |
| Result (resultado) | Qué pasó al final y qué aprendiste | The order arrived the day before the party. The customer left a positive review and has ordered from us several times since then. I learned that, in a problem like this, clear communication matters as much as the solution. |
|---|---|---|
| You're on mute.
| Can you hear me OK? | ¿Me escuchas bien? | Comprobar el audio |
| Sorry, the connection is a bit unstable. | Perdón, la conexión está un poco inestable. | Explicar un problema técnico |
| You froze for a moment. Could you repeat the last part? | Te congelaste un momento. ¿Podrías repetir la última parte? | Se detuvo el video |
| I'll share my screen. | Voy a compartir mi pantalla. | Mostrar un documento o una presentación |
| Let me turn on my camera. | Voy a encender mi cámara. | Encender tu video |
| Sorry, I think we got cut off. | Perdón, creo que se cortó la llamada. | Se cayó la llamada |
| I'll send it in the chat.
Escribe tu respuesta a Tell me about yourself. |
| Día 4 | Investiga la empresa. Prepara Why do you want this job? y tus preguntas para el entrevistador. |
|---|---|---|
| ✗ I have 25 years. | ✔ I'm 25 (years old). | La edad va con be, no con have. |
| ✗ I work here since 2021. | ✔ I've worked here since 2021. | Con since y for para algo que sigue, se usa present perfect. |
| ✗ I am agree. | ✔ I agree. | Agree es un verbo; no lleva am. |
| ✗ I have experience in sell. | ✔ I have experience in sales. / …in selling. | Después de preposición va sustantivo o -ing. |
| ✗ I'm very responsible person. | ✔ I'm a very responsible person. | Con sustantivo contable singular hace falta a. |
| ✗ I want to apply to the position of… | ✔ I'd like to apply for the position of… | Se dice apply for un puesto; I'd like suena más cortés. |
| ✗ My actual job is… | ✔ My current job is… |
| ✗ I finished my career in 2020. | ✔ I graduated in 2020. / I finished my degree in 2020.

Preguntas frecuentes
Por ejemplo: What does a typical day look like in this role?, What would success look like after the first six months? o What are the next steps in the process? Ten siempre dos o tres preparadas.
