Usa be going to para planes que ya decidiste (I'm going to study nursing) y para predicciones con una señal presente (Look at those clouds: it's going to rain). Usa will para decisiones que tomas en el momento, ofrecimientos y promesas (I'll help you) y para predicciones basadas en tu opinión (I think you'll like it).
Cómo se forman going to y will
| Forma | Going to | Will |
|---|---|---|
| Afirmativa | I'm going to call her. She's going to travel. | I'll call her. She'll travel. |
| Negativa | I'm not going to buy it. | I won't buy it. |
| Pregunta | Are you going to come? | Will you come? |
| Respuesta corta | Yes, I am. No, I'm not. | Yes, I will. No, I won't. |
Going to necesita el verbo be conjugado (am/is/are). Después de will y de going to va el verbo en forma base, sin to extra ni -s: she will call, she is going to call.

Errores frecuentes de hispanohablantes
| Error | Corrección | Por qué |
|---|---|---|
| ✗ I going to travel. | ✔ I'm going to travel. | Falta el verbo be (am/is/are). |
| ✗ She will to call you. | ✔ She will call you. | Después de will no va to. |
| ✗ Do you will come? | ✔ Will you come? | Will funciona como auxiliar: la pregunta no lleva do. |
| ✗ Tomorrow I go to the beach. | ✔ Tomorrow I'm going to the beach. / I'm going to go to the beach. | En español decimos "mañana voy" en presente; en inglés, para un plan se usa going to o el presente continuo. |
| ✗ Do I help you with the bags? | ✔ I'll help you with the bags. / Shall I help you? | El "¿te ayudo?" del español se traduce con will o shall, no con el presente. |
Going to vs will: cuál usar en cada situación
| Situación | Going to | Will |
|---|---|---|
| Plan ya decidido | ✔ I'm going to visit my aunt on Sunday. | Poco natural |
| Predicción con evidencia | ✔ Look at the sky. It's going to rain. | Posible, menos común |
| Decisión en el momento | Poco natural | ✔ I'll have the chicken, please. |
| Ofrecimiento o promesa | Poco natural | ✔ I'll call you later. |
| Predicción de opinión | ✔ I think it's going to rain. | ✔ I think it will rain. |
En muchas predicciones las dos formas son correctas y la diferencia es de matiz. En un examen, fíjate si hay un plan previo o una señal presente (going to) o una decisión espontánea (will).
